기능 이후의 공간
기능의 체계에서 감각의 장으로
본 프로젝트는 데이터 센터를 순수한 기계적 인프라로서가 아니라, 인간의 지각과 환경적 경험이 교차하는 공간적 장으로 재해석한다. 데이터 센터는 대규모 데이터 처리와 디지털 인프라를 제공함으로써 사회 전반의 변화를 가속해온 핵심적인 건축 유형이다. 동시에 데이터 센터는 기능 중심적으로 대표되어 온 건축 유형으로서, 디지털 공간의 확장을 통해 물리적 장소의 사용과 경험을 점차 희미하게 만드는 데 가장 크게 기여해 왔다.
본 제안은 이러한 기능 중심적 정의를 넘어, 데이터 센터의 보다 의미 있는 활용 가능성을 탐색한다. 자연으로 채워진 매력적인 외부 공간을 통해 사람들의 직접적인 만남과 교류를 유도하는 요소와, 디지털 공간에서의 상호작용을 가능하게 하는 인프라를 병치함으로써, 물리적 공간과 디지털 공간이 기존과는 다른 방식으로 공존하는 가능성을 제시한다. 이를 통해 본 프로젝트는 기능을 초과하는 데이터 센터의 새로운 공간적 역할을 제안하며, 사람들이 물리적·디지털 공간 모두를 향유할 수 있는 개선된 관계의 구축을 목표로 한다.
Space After Function
From Systems of Function to Fields of Sensation
This project reinterprets the data center not as a purely mechanical infrastructure, but as a spatial field where human perception and environmental experience intersect. Data center is the architype plays the most important role accelerating the changes by providing another level of digital infrastructure and capacity to process large amount of data. Data center has been representative function-oriented building and perhaps has contributed the most to fading of the use of physical place by expanding the digital space. The proposal attempts to find more meaningful use of data center beyond functionality and eventually seeks to suggest another way of utilizing the space through the juxtaposition of two elements: attractive outdoor space filled with nature which stimulates people’s contact and infrastructure enables people’s interactions in digital space. The proposal tries to achieve unconventional coexistence and build improved relationship between physical and digital space where people can enjoy both.
