Mixed Use in Magok

The project is situated along the edge of the Magok Masterplan, occupying a rare small-scale urban plot in through block condition—each side engaging a different street condition. To the east, the eight-lane Gangseo-ro operates at a vehicular scale that suppresses pedestrian activity, while the rear street, Magokjungang 8-ro 7-gil, holds the potential to evolve into a more human-centered corridor.
Responding to the context, the project begins with the insertion of a public circulation system into the private body of the building. The urban corridor that cuts through the mass acts as a shared infrastructural layer for residents and pedestrians, directly linked to the publicly accessible open space at the main entrance, accommodating movement, pause, and unplanned encounters.
On residential levels, seating areas and apertures enable visual interconnection and informal exchange between households. Terraces within the pocket spaces of the H-shaped floor plan, along with the rooftop landscape, extend domestic life into a collective domain.
The façade articulates a restrained rhythm through a half-module shift derived from the alternating bedroom layout. Recessed metal and glass (40mm) and protruding frames (30mm) create a continuous depth profile over limestone. As light shifts, ordered lines subtly misalign, allowing the façade to act as a responsive interface within the urban context.
