여의도는 금융 활동의 중심지로서 활력을 지닌 도시 조직인 동시에, 상당 규모의 주거 지역을 품고 있는 복합적 도시 공간이다. 그러나 여의도의 도시 조직은 다차로의 간선도로들로 촘촘히 엮여 있으며, 특히 여의동로는 한강공원의 광활한 자연 공간과 도심의 밀도 높은 활동 영역 사이를 뚜렷하게 구획하는 경계로 작동해 왔다. 한강을 향해 탁 트인 조망을 확보한 여의도공원 가장자리에 위치한 본 프로젝트 부지는, 오랜 시간 축적된 물리적 단절을 회복하고 분절된 도시 흐름을 다시 연결할 수 있는 핵심적인 지점으로서 중요한 의미를 지닌다.

본 프로젝트의 핵심 개념은 여의도공원의 순환 산책로를 고속도로 상부로 자연스럽게 확장함으로써, 이동의 흐름을 끊김 없이 이어주는 데 있다. 완만한 곡선을 그리는 타원형 보행 동선은 교량이자 고가 산책로라는 이중적 역할을 수행하며, 한강공원으로의 직접적이고 지속적인 연결을 형성한다. 그러나 이 보행 동선은 단순한 인프라를 넘어, 옥상 정원과 전망 데크로 이어지는 다층적 보행 네트워크를 드러내며 새로운 도시 경험을 제안한다. 이 고가의 조망 지점들은 방문자에게 자연과의 중첩된 관계를 형성하게 하며, 다양한 높이에서 환경과 상호작용하도록 유도한다.

강당과 전시 공간 등 프로젝트의 핵심 프로그램을 수용하는 건축적 볼륨은 타원형 동선의 윤곽 안에 조화롭게 배치되어, 주변 자연 경관과 공명하는 도시적 랜드마크로 작동한다. 대규모 프로그램을 담는 매스는 다수의 독립된 볼륨으로 분절되어 구성되며, 이를 통해 시각적 스케일을 완화하고 인접한 공원과 자연스럽게 맞물리는 중간 영역을 형성한다.

건축적 제안에 더해, 본 프로젝트는 테마형 도서관을 포함한 다양한 문화 프로그램을 통해 지역 커뮤니티의 참여를 촉진하는 촉매로 기능하고자 한다. 이는 오랫동안 단절과 소외의 문제를 안고 있던 도시 환경에 새로운 활력을 불어넣는 문화적 중심지를 형성하는 시도이다. 이 프로젝트는 단순한 물리적 변형을 넘어, 도시와 자연이 조화롭게 얽히는 연결성과 창조성의 정신을 다시 일깨우는 계기를 마련한다.

Interconnecting Urban Venue: Yeouido’s New Cultural Node

Yeouido stands as a vibrant hub of financial activity, complemented by a sizeable residential enclave. Yet, the neighborhood’s urban fabric is woven with multi-lane thoroughfares, with Yeuidong Road encircling its perimeter like a pronounced demarcation between the tranquil expanse of Hangang Parks and the bustling heart of the area. Positioned at the edge of Yeouido Park, where it commands an expansive vista of the Han River, the designated project site assumes a role of paramount importance. It presents an extraordinary opportunity to bridge the physical gaps that have accrued over time, creating pathways that harmoniously reconcile what was once fragmented.

The project’s core idea is to organically expand Yeouido Park’s loop trail over the highway, eliminating any disruption. A gracefully curved oval walkway emerges as a dual-purpose urban element, seamlessly merging both bridge and elevated pathway, forging an unbreakable link to Hangang Park. Yet, its essence transcends mere utility - it unveils an intricate network of walkways that lead to enchanting rooftop landscapes and sweeping viewing decks. These elevated vantage points immerse visitors in a layered communion with nature, inviting them to interact with the environment on multiple tiers.

The architectural form housing the project’s focal elements, including auditoriums and exhibition spaces, is harmoniously ensconced within the contours of the oval-shaped pathway, creating landmarks that emulate the natural surroundings. The substantial structures are deliberately composed of discrete volumes, ingeniously minimizing their perceived scale and generating interstitial spaces that seamlessly engage with the adjacent existing parks.

Beyond its architectural aspirations, the project endeavors to serve as a catalyst for community engagement, infusing residents with a rich tapestry of cultural offerings, including thematic libraries.
